Vision:
Eliminate the achievement gap in selected Missouri schools to inform future strategies for all Missouri schools.

Mission:
Close the achievement gap between subgroups of students attaining proficient levels on state performance assessments in communication arts and math.

Outcome:
Decrease the achievement gap between black students within the consortium schools and white students statewide in communication arts and math by at least 15% over the three years of the project consistent with the DESE strategic plan (2004).

Purposes:
The Close the Gap Consortium will work cooperatively with identified schools in local school districts to:

Overcome difficulties meeting Missouri School Improvement Program performance standards for all students through application of research-based models of school improvement including leadership, instruction, curriculum development, and classroom management, with a focus on culturally responsive practices.

Collaborate with the district and the building for a long-term systemic school improvement initiative, at both the school and district levels, resulting in significantly improved student performance.
