- When the River Rises: Crop Losses from the Great Flood of 1993
As the Mississippi River rises, pundits are forecasting higher corn prices and massive government intervention. While OSEDA cannot predict the cost of the 2008 Flood, we review the impact of the Great Flood of 1993 on crop income and government payments for Missouri and its northeastern river counties.
- Top Ten Mo. Farm Counties Tally $886M
Missouri farmers made $5.93 billion in 2006, according to Bureau of Economic Analysis data released in June. The 2006 total cash receipts were less than $5.97 billion reported in 2005. Cash receipts from livestock was $3.42 billion, down from $3.57 billion reported in 2005. Crops brought in $2.5 billion, more than $2.36 reported in 2005.
