Description of the St. Joseph Area Region

In 2000 there were approximately 3,100 full-time entrepreneurs and 2,800 part-time entrepreneurs in the St. Joseph region. The annual average earnings of full-time entrepreneurs was $33,225 and the average for part-time entrepreneurs was $43,603. Both of these averages were above the annual average wage for the region of $24,324.1

The most common educational background of full-time entrepreneurs in this region was either a high school diploma or some college with no degree. The most common educational background of part-time entrepreneurs was a high school degree. However, there were also a large number of part-time entrepreneurs who either had a bachelor's degree or had some college and no degree. The largest concentrations of full-time entrepreneurs were in the Health Care and Social Assistance, Construction, and the Government/Military industries. Industry concentrations of part-time entrepreneurs were in Retail Trade, Agriculture, and Mining and Utilities.
