Description of the Northeast Region
In 2000 there were approximately 5,200 full-time entrepreneurs and 4,600 part-time
entrepreneurs in the Northeast region. The annual average earnings of full-time
entrepreneurs was $22,600 and the average for part-time entrepreneurs was $31,800. Both of
these averages were above the annual average wage for the region of $21,400.1
The most common educational background of entrepreneurs in this region (both full-time
and part-time) was either a high school diploma or some college with no degree. The largest
concentration of entrepreneurs was in the Agriculture and Forestry industry. Part-time
entrepreneurs were also concentrated in the Mining and Utilities industry. For a more
