Description of the Southern Jackson/Cass County Region

In 2000 there were approximately 5,200 full-time entrepreneurs and 5,100 part-time entrepreneurs in the Southern Jackson/Cass County region. The annual average earnings of full-time entrepreneurs was $37,400 and the average for part-time entrepreneurs was $50,100. Both of these averages were above the annual average wage for the region of $31,800.1

The most common educational background of full-time entrepreneurs in this region was either a high school diploma (40%) or some college with no degree (24%). Among part-time entrepreneurs the most common educational background was some college (33%), although high school graduates (23%) and college graduates (18%) also composed a large portion of the entrepreneurship pool.

The largest concentration of full-time entrepreneurs was in Construction while the largest concentration of part-time entrepreneurs was in Retail Trade.
