In 2000 there were approximately 2,900 full-time entrepreneurs and 2,100 part-time
entrepreneurs in the Independence region. The annual average earnings of full-time
entrepreneurs was $30,000 and the average for part-time entrepreneurs was $44,000. Both of
these averages were above the annual average wage for the region of $26,000.1
The most common educational background of entrepreneurs in this region (both full-time
and part-time) was a high school degree. The largest concentration of entrepreneurs (both
