Description of the Bootheel Region

In 2000 there were approximately 4,900 full-time entrepreneurs and 3,000 part-time entrepreneurs in the Bootheel region. The annual average earnings of full-time entrepreneurs was $31,800 and the average for part-time entrepreneurs was $35,000. Both of these averages were above the annual average wage for the region of $19,000.1

The most common educational background of entrepreneurs in this region (both full-time and part-time) was a high school degree. The largest concentrations of both full-time and part-time entrepreneurs were in the industries of Agriculture/Forestry and Mining/Utilities.
