In 2000 there were approximately 6,300 full-time entrepreneurs and 5,200 part-time
entrepreneurs in the West Plains Area. The annual average earnings of full-time
entrepreneurs was $26,200 and the average for part-time entrepreneurs was $28,700. Both of
these averages were above the annual average wage for the region of $17,800.1
The most common educational background of entrepreneurs in this region (both full-time
and part-time) was a high school degree. The largest concentrations of both full-time and
part-time entrepreneurs were in the Agriculture/Forestry and Mining/Utilities industries.
