Description of the Springfield City Region

In 2000 there were approximately 4,200 full-time entrepreneurs and 3,800 part-time entrepreneurs in the Springfield City region. The annual average earnings of full-time entrepreneurs was $30,100 and the average for part-time entrepreneurs was $56,200. Both of these averages were above the annual average wage for the region of $24,000.1

The most common educational background of full-time entrepreneurs in this region was either a high school diploma (36%) or some college with no degree (30%). The most common educational background of part-time entrepreneurs in this region was either some college with no degree (27%) or a high school degree (23%). The largest concentration of full-time entrepreneurs was in the Construction industry. The largest concentration of part-time entrepreneurs was in Other Services and Health Care and Social Assistance.
